Abstract from the report written by Claude Rufini, Vice - President of the International Federation of Wine Lovers' Association's (FICB)

The 39th Congress of the International Federation of Wine Lovers' Association's (FICB) in June 2002 successfully gathered more than 200 participants in the Lubéron, France. It was the opportunity for both amateurs and professionals to discover a French region, its wines and castles, and to discuss the evolutions of the wine economy in France and abroad.
The debates focused on two issues and were followed with great interest by the attendees, the wine professionals and the media. They first highlighted the success of American wines and second tackled the issue of the French A.O.C.s (Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée) and their commercial utility. The discussion was enriched by a presentation of World Wines brought by the participants from all over the world. The grapes were tasted and commented, accompanied by typical products.

The Congress also offered many distractions such as the visit of Luberon's vineyards and historical sites (Lourmarin or Cucuron vineyards, the Popes Palace in Avignon...), numerous meals honoring the regional wines, or the formal procession of all the Brotherhoods' dignitaries.
And before turning their eye towards the next Congress that will take place in Slovenia in May 2003, many participants will have brought back home the "Luberon Glass", specially realised for the event by the well-known crystal manufacturer Baccarat.
