The 40th Congress
of the International Federation of Wine Brotherhoods

Slovenia – May 23-27, 2003

The 40th Congress of the International Federation of wine Wine Brotherhoods in Slovenia gathered more 150 participants from 11 countries.
During 5 days they discovered the 3 vineyards
- The Podravje (Drave Valley) in the North-East, a region well-known for its white and effervescent wines.
- The Posavje (Save Valley) in the South-East, a producer of white, red and rosé wines, as well as late harvest wines.
- The Primorska along the Adriatic Sea, traditionally a producer of red wine.

Congress, international symposium and debates were organised as well as visits of wine cellars, wine tastings, discovery the gastronomy, traditional danse parties and formal processions of the Brotherhoods. The President of the Slovenian Parliament and the Secretary of Agriculture took part in the event.
Claude Josse, President of the Federation, received the symbol of LJUBLJANA from its Mayor and old wines in Maribor where there is a 400 years old grape !
Two additional days were organised after the Congress' conclusion including visit of Primorska and trip to Venise by boat.
