Origins of the Brotherhood
The vineyards of the Luberon have a long history. Wines were first produced in the region for local consumption and were later appreciated at Versailles. They fell from favour in the middle of the 19th century, but fine wines started to be made from 1960
onwards.
Motto
" Brothers and sisters, all honestly brought together by a creative spirit and united against enemies." |

Symbols and Rituals
|
||
|
The brotherhood's ceremonial dress was designed by Alain Maître and made by Catherine Delaroziere. The man's costume represents the traditional
vine-grower : the gown symbolises the main vine stock, the shoulders display thick green leaves, and the front of the dress displays a bunch of grapes made of red silk. The women's costume represents a bunch of grapes around the waist as a symbol of fertility. The corset area is enlaced with vine leaves and shoots. The organisation takes part in a large number of prestigious events in order to promote the reputation the Lubéron's wines. Every year it celebrates France's great wine festivals. On these occasions, the organisation's members wear their symbolic dress and hold a traditional enthroning ceremony for new members. |
